The review of public camping in Tasmania has gained a lot of exposure recently, especially with the results being published this week. CMCA has been involved in discussions; however, we are disappointed in some of the review’s results. We will continue campaigning to the state government, supporting the local government in its endeavour to undertake what ever is in the best interest of local communities. We do agree that a public interest test should be undertaken by local government when establishing a low-cost camping area, with all factors being taken into consideration (not just one sector of the business community). However, we do not support the ruling that public camping within a 60km radius of a commercial park must not exceed more than 10% of non-powered sites that is offered by that nearby park. This is ludicrous and simply not practical as Tasmania is a small state. Tasmania needs RV tourism. It’s an important aspect of the state's economy, especially considering the Spirit of Tasmania is government owned and operated. We would like to reassure members that CMCA is at the forefront of representing issues that arise Australia wide. We have a professional and strategic approach to all issues and will not respond emotionally. We base all our responses on fact not fiction. Members are welcome to respond to government as individuals.
Safe travelling,
Richard
