CMCA Statement (9) – Coronavirus/COVID-19                                           15 April 2020

Firstly, we hope you all had a very safe Easter.

As restrictions are more settled at present, we realise repetitive communication around COVID-19 can be daunting from some. As such, we will now limit our direct communication with members to one weekly statement unless an urgent or special announcement is required.

We again thank and commend our members for doing the right thing; maintaining social distancing and abiding by all regulations set down by Federal, State and Territorian Governments. We are all in this together; and thankfully there appears to be some ‘flattening of the curve’.

In view of the travel restrictions, directors will hold their next board meeting on Tuesday via a digital platform. This will be the first of its kind for the Club; technology providing the ability to have directors linked in from Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland; through to the CEO in New South Wales.

  • National Headquarters remains closed, with all staff working remotely. This does not affect the operation of the Club - members still have direct access to staff by phone and email. Changes to vehicle details etc and renewals can also be done online at www.cmca.net.au or via the CMCA Connect app. If you do not have your login details for the member portal or app, please call 02 4978 8788 and the staff will be only too happy to assist.

As we said last week, we are currently communicating with Ken Tame & Associates to seek clarification and, in some cases, changes to their existing business:

  • KTA can no longer offer cover for private motor vehicles (PMV) and are withdrawing their Private Vehicle Insurance product offering from the market. Under the new General Insurance Code of Practice (GICoP) which came into effect this year, all insurers are required to determine their target market (amongst many other additional compliance requirements). The target market for KTA has been defined as RVs – this means vehicles or trailers that include living quarters designed for accommodation. For example, motorhomes, campervans, pop-tops, slide-ons, converted buses or coaches, fifth wheelers, caravans and camper trailers.
  • KTA continues to provide cover for Private Motor Tow Vehicles (PMTOW).  This means vehicles that tow or have an accommodation unit attached, such as fifth wheelers, caravans, camper trailers or slide ons.
  • As said last week, we have formally approached KTA to consider developing a policy in relation to Layover/Lay Up cover. This is being reviewed and considered.

Like all business, both CMCA and KTA are in unchartered territory that is evolving every day; and both are tackling varying new issues on a regular basis. KTA has agreed to keep both the Club and members informed of progress made and decisions reached.

The CMCA board and CEO will also continue to inform you of all developments, as we are united in our efforts to represent the Club and its members in their best interests. When we come out of this, hopefully sooner than later, domestic tourism will no doubt boom; these are the times we all look forward to.

  • Cross Border Travel Direction - Essential Traveller Notice: We have been advised that if you are in one state (e.g. WA) and require to travel home to another one (e.g. NSW), that a permit is required so that when passing through other states (e.g. SA), you would not be require to self-isolate until reaching your place of residence, or in the case of being on the road full-time, a designated caravan park.
  • Just a reminder for those members that are on the road full-time to check the CMCA website under https://members.cmca.net.au/content/3be2db98f for accommodation options. Naturally, you will be required to login to access this site.

Please continue to work together to beat COVID-19. Keep safe and abide by all guidelines that have been established regarding essential travel, border restrictions, closures, self- isolation, social-distancing and when and how to seek medical advice/treatment. For more information please refer to https://www.health.gov.au/ or download the Coronavirus Australia app.

On behalf of all directors, thank you again for your continued support of both the Club and the actions needed to overcome COVID-19.
