New CMCA RV Park for Penola, South Australia
The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA) is excited to officially announce that it has received approval to develop Australia’s sixth CMCA RV Park in Penola, South Australia.
CMCA has been working closely with Wattle Range Council and the McCorquindale Park Management Committee for an extended period to secure this valuable member benefit, which will be located at the McCorquindale Park complex approximately 800 metres from the Penola CBD.
Chairman Garry Lee said “we are slowly building our network of parks, with three operational and another three now in the development stage, which is exciting for our Club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Wattle Range Council and the McCorquindale Park Management Committee for their support and cooperation throughout the planning phase for this exciting development”.
It has been a collaborative approach bringing the concept to reality. It unfortunately takes time, consultation and engagement; however, there will be many benefits both socially and economically for Penola. In creating a partnership between CMCA members and the towns they visit, CMCA aims to encourage new members to join the Club and be a part of this amazing low-cost camping model.
The site will be a low-cost camping area with potable water, black water disposal point, secure parking, meeting shelter and other basic elements, which meets the criteria for a CMCA RV Park. The concept is proving very popular with Councils who are looking in capitalising on this growing road- based tourism market.
As the value of RV tourism becomes widely accepted, CMCA has a number of initiatives that deliver substantial economic benefit to communities across Australia; with over 320 towns now with RV Friendly status and another 150 businesses and community organisations now recognised as a RV Friendly Destination. Our Club has been at the forefront of developing tourism and economic opportunities for towns and regions across Australia.
For Penola, joining our CMCA RV Park network will deliver direct benefits to the local business community. The park will be promoted to RV travellers across Australia through CMCA’s magazine The Wanderer and will also be featured on our online navigational platform called GeoWiki, the CMCA website and social media. With the self-contained RV tourism market estimated to be worth more than $2.5 billion annually, once the park is open, the Coonawarra wine region will be wellpositioned to access this lucrative tourism market.
The number of registered RVs in Australia is expected to grow to more than 700,000 vehicles by 2020. As more baby boomers enter the market, regional Australia in particular will benefit from this extraordinary growth. These tourists not only deliver economic benefits but also support communities through volunteer involvement.
Penola and the region, now have the opportunity to promote the region’s attractions and capture a part of this massive growth market. Through a combination of social media and word of mouth, RV tourists will quickly let their fellow travellers know what a great place Penola is to visit and experience what it is that makes this town unique.
