CEO Weekly Message

I have had a huge week of meetings alongside chairman Garry Lee and director Gary Rebgetz. We met with the Queensland Government as we endeavour to remove the inadequacies in two government policies that are prohibiting RV park and low-cost camping development across the state. Back in mid-August, we conducted an RV Road Tourism forum in Brisbane that was attended by 80 government and industry professionals. We released a report that recognised the restrictive issues and changes and solutions that are now required. Back in 2008/09, the government (Qld) at the time developed a policy in the secondary use of trust land, which limited the permissible uses of the land. The government were told the policy could work, and 10 years later it does not. We have been working on behalf of members for change; however, the steps in doing so require engaging with all sides of government to gauge support. This should be a bipartisan approach, and politics should not dictate the outcome. However, we need to go through the necessary steps. There will be further meetings with key political figures in Queensland across the next few weeks to seek further support. Queensland is not the only state affected by a policy or legislation that restricts low-cost camping development. Be assured that we will undergo similar strategies in other states. Many members would not realise the work we do behind the scenes at a government level. We have done this for many years; however, now we are identified as the leading RV consumer representative.

Safe travelling,

Richard
